Dr. Christian Baldwin
Assistant Professor
I am currently an Assistant Professor at Mississippi State University with a 70% teaching, 30% research appointment. Classes I currently teach include Introduction to Turfgrass Science, Introduction to Plant Science, Turfgrass Weed Management, and Golf Course Operations. Prior to arriving at Mississippi State, I completed my master's and Ph.D. at Clemson University. Following graduation, I spent 4 years as the Turfgrass Scientist at Jacklin Seed by Simplot before joining the Mississippi State Turf team in October, 2012. I currently advise one graduate student, Benton Hodges. His research focus is developing daily light integrals for warm-season putting green establishment.
Dr. James McCurdy
Assistant Professor, State Turfgrass Extension Specialist
Dr. ​McCurdy earned a bachelor’s degree in plant and soil sciences from the University of Tennessee at Martin and a master’s degree in plant sciences from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. He received a doctorate in agronomy and soils from Auburn University, where he studied turf grass weed control, herbicide resistance and low maintenance, biologically diverse turf systems. His research focuses on turfgrass weed control. His extension efforts are focused on growing Mississippi's turfgrass industry.

Dylan Boteler
My name is Dylan Boteler and I am a senior in the Turf Grass program at Mississippi State University. During my high school years I worked on a variety of golf courses in the Jackson area such as Patrick Farms, Leflore's Bluff, and Colonial Country Club. During my time at State I have done internships at Spring Creek Ranch and Jackson Country Club as well as worked several PGA tour events such as The Player's Championship, Fedex St. Jude Classic, and The Sanderson Farms Championship. I plan on ending my career at State by doing an eight month internship at Valhalla Golf Club host of the 2014 PGA Championship.
Michael Denney
My name is Michael Denney, and I am a senior in the Turf program concentrating in golf course management. I live just outside the Memphis city limits in Tennessee. I grew up on a golf course and have been working on them since I was 15. I was first introduced to the golf course industry by Scott Newman and Jordan Carlisle at Spring Creek Ranch, both graduates of MSU's turf program. I have Co-ops at Spring Creek Ranch, Germantown Country Club, an 8 month internship at FarmLinks Golf Club, 3 summers volunteering at the Fedex St. Jude Classic at TPC Southwind, another summer at Germantown Country Club as an AIT and have worked at Starkville Country Club the 4 years I've been enrolled at MSU. I expect to graduate December of 2014.
Dustin Miller
My name is Dustin Miller, and I'm from Pass Christian, Mississippi. I have worked at the Peninsula Golf and Racquet Club in Gulf Shores, and also at The Country Club of Birmingham as an intern. I really became comfortable with a lot of aspects concerning golf course maintenance during my time at CCB, and I hope to continue learning more as I finish my golf and sports turf degree at Mississippi State University. I plan to graduate in the Fall of 2014, but I am considering graduate school.
Douglas Martin
My name is Douglas Martin I am from Wiggins, Ms. I am a senior turf student and I have worked at the Links of Starkville, Fallen Oak Golf Course near Biloxi, and the Mississippi State University Institute of Golf where I currently work. I plan to graduate this coming December.
Jed McCoy
I am from Brandon, MS and am currently enrolled in the Mississippi State University Agronomy Program majoring in Golf and Sports Turf Management. I have just recently begun to get into this field; I began at the Mississippi Braves that sparked my ongoing interest and urge for turf grass.i have interned with the Mississippi Braves for two years and have one more to go. I expect to be graduating in December of 2015 after I finish my final co-op and college credits.
Ashley Averitt
My name is Ashley Averitt. I am from Oakland, TN. Also, I am a Senior here at MSU. Work experience at Windyke Country Club in Germantown, TN for two summers and then this past summer, I worked at The Links of Gaylord Springs in Nashville, TN. I will be graduating in December 2014.
Wes Dyer
My name is Wes Dyer and I am from Jackson, TN. I am Senior from Mississippi State University and graduating spring of 2014. I have previously had internships at TPC Sawgrass, Spring Creek Ranch, and MSU golf course.
Corey Garrison
My name is Corey Garrison. I am from Olive Branch, MS. I have interned at Old Waverly in West Point,MS and Squire Creek Country Club in Choudrant, LA. I expect to graduate Spring 2015.
Kyle Grider
My name is Kyle Grider and I am from Franklin, Tennessee. I have interned in Kannapolis, North Carolina with the Kannapolis Intimidators and I am expected to graduate in May of 2015.
Justin Hickman
I am from Sylacauga, Alabama. My first golf course experience was at Farmlinks golf club. Since then I have worked at Moore's mill golf club in auburn Alabama, Carmel country club in Charlotte, NC, and Starkville country club while in school. I plan to graduate in December of 2015.
Ethan Flournoy
My name is Ethan Flournoy. I am from Slocomb, Alabama, a small town located in the southeast corner of the state. I am a junior with expected graduation date of December 2015. I have done co-ops at the Country Club of Birmingham and the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Highland Oaks in Dothan, Alabama. I am currently working on research projects with Dr. Christian Baldwin.
Christo Sullivan
I am from Northport, AL. I have worked at Ol' Colony Golf Complex in Tuscaloosa, AL. I am a Senior and I am expecting to graduate December of 2015.
